FC Volendam have secured promotion to the Eredivisie after beating Jong AZ 1-0 on Monday evening.

FC Volendam will return to the Dutch top flight after a one-year absence. The club from the fishermen's town in North Holland were relegated a record tenth time from the Eredivisie after finishing 17th in the 2023-24 season.

With third-placed ADO Den Haag at 63 points and just four remaining matches, the other Oranje needed a win against Jong AZ to get to 76 points and clinch a record eleventh promotion. FC Volendam had won eight Keuken Kampioen Divisie games in a row, but were long unable to find the much-needed breakthrough against AZ's U21 team.

Backed by 750 away fans, midfielder Alex Plat became the hero of Volendam by scoring the only goal of the game in the 64th minute.
