Indonesian international Calvin Verdonk has completed a deadline day move to Lille from Dutch Eredivisie side NEC Nijmegen, the Ligue 1 club confirmed.

The 28-year-old Netherlands-born defender has signed a three-year deal with Lille. NEC Nijmegen will receive a transfer fee of €3 million for the nine-time Indonesian international.

Verdonk joined NEC from Portuguese outfit Famalicao in 2022 and went on to play 165 games for the Nijmegen side, with whom he made the final of the KNVB Beker in 2024.

After his final game for NEC, Verdonk proudly looked back upon his time in Nijmegen. "I've been through a lot: first, I played for NEC in the second tier, then I left for a while. I came back when NEC was promoted.

"Since then, NEC has only gone up, and now the club is doing well. The competition is still long, but I hope those guys will finish high in the league."

At Lille, Verdonk will compete for a spot in the starting lineup with Frenchman Romain Perraud, who joined Lille earlier this summer from Real Betis.
