Henderson dominated the news Thursday when the English captain demanded a move away from Ajax. Ligue 1 side AS Monaco had approached Henderson, after which people interested in Henderson's lucrative move to Monaco reportedly whispered in his ear that Ajax would rather lose the former Liverpool captain and his wages.
De Telegraaf's Mike Verweij reported that Henderson apologised for his behaviour after Ajax's Europa League win over Galatasaray (2-1) of Thursday night. During a conversation with technical director Alex Kroes and another board member, Henderson is said to have explained his "unprofessional behaviour" on Thursday by blaming the aforementioned individuals of letting them mess with his head.
Thursday afternoon, Henderson demanded a move away from Ajax over a phone call with Kroes and threatened to leave the club on a free if they would not cooperate.
During the Europa League game against Galatasaray, Henderson - who gave away the captain's armband to goalkeeper Remko Pasveer shortly before kick-off - refused to celebrate with his team-mates after Kian Fitz-Jim scored the 2-0 against the Turkish giants.
The former England international then refused to thank the fans after the game. Henderson's attitude on the pitch is supposedly what prompted Kroes to meet Henderson personally after the game.
Henderson has now committed his near future to Ajax, according to Verweij. The Englishman wants to qualify directly for next year's Champions League with Ajax, whether that's through winning the Eredivisie or finishing in second place.
The 34-year-old 81-time English international has a contract until June 2026 but could potentially leave this summer.
