The visitors’ Denes Dibusz was by far the busier of the two goalkeepers in the early exchanges, as he first made a fine stop Hugo Ekitike, getting down to his left to palm away a fierce strike at the near post.
Arthur Theate was the next to be thwarted, with his low drive from outside the box saved, as was another effort from Ekitiké from a similar distance. Yet, just as the early storm had been weathered, the Greens’ night took a turn for the worse, with the experienced Dibusz limping off injured.
Dibusz’s replacement, Adam Varga, was involved in the action straight away, flying to his left to tip Rasmus Kristensen’s strike out for a corner, before getting his body behind a more tamely-struck Ansgar Knauff shot.
And the one-way traffic only continued after the break, with the German side finally breaking the deadlock through a screamer from Can Uzun, who brilliantly found the top corner from outside the area.
And Frankfurt doubled their lead by the hour mark, as Ekitike was rewarded for a fine individual performance, spinning in the box and coolly converting from close range as he stabbed past Varga.
Meanwhile, things could have got even worse for the visitors, as a penalty for handball was initially awarded against defender Ellyes Skhiri, but VAR intervened and the decision was overturned.
Even so, Dino Toppmoller’s side were cruising. They were able to bring off some of their big hitters as the game wore on, but still had a further chance to extend their advantage through Theate.

The result leaves Frankfurt, who remain unbeaten at home in the UEL this season, within touching distance of automatic qualification for the last 16. By contrast, Ferencvaros are clinging on to a play-off spot, having still never won a European tie in Germany.
