It was a half of contrasting emotions, with the Sundowns taking a shock lead after just 11 minutes. It came in breathtaking fashion when a darting run from Lucas Ribeiro Costa split the Dortmund defence, with the Brazil ace keeping his cool and netting the opener.
Their joy was short-lived, lasting just five minutes in fact, as a horrifying mistake from Ronwen Williams gifted Felix Nmecha the ball 12 yards out from goal, with the Dortmund midfielder making no mistake.

The German side completed the comeback before the break, and this time Serhou Guirassy was on hand to head home at the back post to give his side the lead. With momentum on their side, BVB added another on the stroke of half-time as Jobe Bellingham bagged a maiden goal for his new club, taking the game away from Sundowns.
Despite the two-goal deficit, Sundowns continue to push for a route back into the game, but much to their frustration, it was Dortmund who found the game’s fifth goal when Daniel Svensson’s cross was unfortunately deflected into his own goal by Khuliso Mudau.
However, in keeping with the topsy-turvy nature of the contest, Bafana Ba Style netted once again midway through the second half, as Iqraam Rayners scrambled into the back of the net to reduce the deficit back to two.

Remarkably, Sundowns scored again when a blistering counterattack saw Lebo Mothiba staring down on goal, with a class finish setting up a grandstand finish in the Queen City.
In the end, though, it was Dortmund who reigned supreme, and after the disappointment of the Fluminense draw, it’s a welcome result for the Bundesliga team, who have one foot in the last-16.
