Portuguese Under-21 international Carlos Forbs was presented this Thursday as a new player for Belgian club Club Brugge, on a contract until 2029. Without officially disclosing the figures, the Dutch press speculated that the deal was finalised for around 8.5 million euros.

"Carlos Forbs has signed a contract with Club Brugge until 2029 and will wear the number nine shirt," announced the Belgian league runners-up last season.

It should be remembered that at the end of June, the 21-year-old winger was dismissed by Ajax via WhatsApp, a controversial move that sparked discord and left the Dutch footballers' union in shock. Despite this, Ajax's sporting director, Alex Kroes, was full of praise for the Portuguese player.

"Carlos has very good character traits, is always positive and is also a curious and motivated player. Unfortunately, however, he hasn't been able to become a starter with us. He's still very young and therefore has a whole career ahead of him. He'll continue like this in Belgium and we wish him the best of luck," he said, speaking to the Ajax website.

The Portuguese winger had no choice but to look for a future outside of Amsterdam after an unsuccessful loan spell at Wolverhampton last season, making just 11 appearances without scoring a goal.

Recently, the winger took part in the UEFA European Under-21 Championship in three matches, always as a substitute.

It's worth remembering that the striker left Sporting at an early age for Manchester City's academy, where he grew until, in 2022/23, he was considered the best player in the reserve league (under-21), with 25 goals and 11 assists in 11 games.

It was this campaign, along with a good UEFA European Under-19 Championship, that led Ajax to sign him for 14 million euros in 2023/24.

However, he didn't convince in his first season, where he scored three goals and four assists in a dismal campaign for Ajax and wasn't part of the plans of Francesco Farioli, the now coach of FC Porto, last season.
