AS Monaco's sports director, Thiago Scuro, says it would have been too late if the French club had waited until the summer to purchase the Danish international striker, Mika Biereth, from Sturm Graz.

"We knew that if we didn't make the decision this winter, it would probably be too late in the summer because Sturm Graz still had two Champions League games left and Mika was a big part of the performance on the pitch", says Scuro to Get French Football News.

The sports director says that the French club had been following Biereth for a long time before making an offer for him.

"We knew about him since before he moved to Sturm Graz, but we really started to keep an eye on him when he went there on loan."

"Mika proved himself as a goalscorer, but it was especially after a friendly match we had against them last summer, when I and Adi (Hütter, Monaco's Austrian coach) started following him closely for the rest of the season", says the Monaco sports director.

Scuro says that they were convinced that Biereth would turn into a great purchase but they hadn't anticipated the dream start Biereth has had to his stay in the Principality.

"Of course he has exceeded all expectations. No one could have predicted that a young player would arrive and score as many goals as he has. It is his own merit", says Scuro.

Biereth has so far scored 11 goals in nine matches and the lethal Danish striker will get a new chance to add to his tally when Monaco face Nice at home on Saturday night.
