January signing Mika Biereth (21) scored an eight-minute hat-trick as Monaco overturned a half-time deficit to clinch a 4-2 victory in their home clash with Auxerre, representing a fourth consecutive win over their opponents in Ligue 1.

Despite being put under pressure from the first whistle, Auxerre briefly thought they had opened the scoring against the run of play when Gaetan Perrin calmly rounded the goalkeeper to slot home, only for VAR to rule it out for offside.

From nearly taking the lead, Auxerre found themselves behind when Thilo Kehrer gave Monaco a 35th-minute deadlock breaker, thumping the ball into the far corner after pouncing onto a loose ball from a corner.

As it proved, Monaco’s slender advantage lasted just a couple of minutes before Sinaly Diomande rifled an unstoppable effort into the top corner from the edge of the box.

Monaco captain Denis Zakaria then gifted the visitors an opportunity to complete a first-half turnaround after being penalised for pulling Jubal’s shirt in the box.

Jubal thought he’d spurned the glorious chance when he saw his weak spot-kick saved, but VAR ruled that Radoslaw Majecki had crept off his line, allowing the Auxerre skipper made amends from the retake, stroking the ball down the middle to send his team into the break with a narrow lead.

Following a disappointing end to the first period, Monaco boss Adi Hutter opted to ring the changes at the break, introducing Soungoutou Magassa, Caio Henrique and Breel Embolo.

It proved to be a masterstroke as Embolo teed up Biereth to tuck home the equaliser before Henrique provided an inch-perfect cross for Biereth to steer a right-footed shot in off the post.

Sensationally, Biereth was celebrating his hat-trick just moments later, guiding the ball into the empty net after Embolo had done the hard work by taking it past the goalkeeper.

Biereth’s first Ligue 1 treble knocked the stuffing out of Auxerre, who saw their winless run extend to nine games across all competitions.

As a result, the visitors remain six points clear of the drop zone, while the third-placed hosts move level on 37 points with Marseille in the top two, albeit having played a game more.
