Toulouse became the first team to take anything from Groupama Stadium this season, thanks to a dramatic late turnaround saw them claim a 2-1 win over Lyon.

Knowing they could move into first place with a win, Les Gones dominated the first half with Malick Fofana looking particularly dangerous in attack. The Belgian attacker saw the best early chances fall his way, but he saw a shot blocked before he swept the ball just wide of the far post after being played through on goal.

He wasn’t to be deterred however, and got the opener on 24 minutes thanks to a calm side-footed finish from Martín Satriano’s low cross.

Despite their dominance, Lyon couldn’t extend their lead before half-time, and even rode their luck when Yann Gboho’s shot was deflected just wide of the target.

Having barely threatened in the first half, Toulouse responded at the break with two substitutions and nearly found a leveller straight after the restart. One of the players introduced, Dayann Methalie, had a sight of goal from the edge of the area, but his snap shot whistled just wide of the post.

Despite their dominance in the first half, Lyon were unable to exert any consistent attacking pressure and that allowed the visitors to grow back into the game heading into the final stages.

But Toulouse were finally able to make the pressure count in the 87th minute, as Emersonn pounced on some slack defending and although the angle appeared to be against him, his shot took a huge deflection and looped high over Dominik Greif before landing in the net.

Just when it looked like the game was destined to end in a draw, Emersonn struck again six minutes into added time, crashing home a close range header from Alexis Vossah’s corner to complete the comeback.

That win ends a run of three-straight losses for Toulouse and moves them up to 9th, whilst Lyon miss the chance to go top of the league and remain in 3rd.
