Africans in Europe’s top five leagues were in superb form, dazzling for their clubs with impressive goalscoring displays as the 2025-26 season continued.

ENGLAND

Cameroon forward Bryan Mbeumo scored his first Premier League goal for Manchester United in their 3-2 win over Burnley on Saturday.

The 26-year-old had already netted his first United goal in the League Cup against Grimsby midweek, and struck again in the 57th minute at Old Trafford to restore the Reds’ lead.

Bruno Fernandes sealed the win from the penalty spot, while Mbeumo’s display earned him Man of the Match as Ruben Amorim’s side breathed a sigh of relief after a shaky start to the 2025–26 Premier League season.

Ismaila Sarr sealed Crystal Palace’s 3-0 triumph at Villa Park, heading home in the 78th minute to complete a dominant display.

The Senegalese forward rose highest to meet Jefferson Lerma’s long throw, flicked on by Maxence Lacroix, and guided the ball into an unguarded net.

Earlier, Jean-Philippe Mateta had put Palace ahead before Marc Guehi doubled the lead, leaving Aston Villa with little response.

The result continued Palace’s fine record against Villa in recent meetings and underlined their growing confidence away from home in the new campaign.

In another Premier League clash, African stars shone as Everton edged Wolverhampton Wanderers 3-2 at Molineux.

Guinea-Bissau striker Beto opened the scoring in the seventh minute, finishing Jack Grealish’s clever header across goal. Wolves hit back through Hwang Hee-Chan on 21 minutes, but Everton quickly restored their lead.

Senegal forward Iliman Ndiaye struck from close range at the back post after smart work from Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, capping a lively first half in which the Toffees’ attacking play proved too sharp for the hosts to contain.

ITALY

Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa handed Napoli a dramatic 1-0 victory over Cagliari in their first home match of the season at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona.

With the game deep into stoppage time, the midfielder timed his run perfectly to meet Stanislav Lobotka’s low cross, firing a crisp first-time finish into the net.

The late breakthrough ended Cagliari’s stubborn resistance and triggered wild celebrations from manager Antonio Conte and his bench as the Serie A champions began their title defence in thrilling fashion.

In another Serie A fixture, Boulaye Dia opened his account for the season by sealing Lazio’s 4-0 victory over Hellas Verona at the Stadio Olimpico.

Introduced as a substitute in the 78th minute, the Senegalese forward wasted no time, scoring just four minutes later.

He darted to the near post to meet Rafik Belahyane’s driven cross, finishing clinically to cap off a dominant Serie A performance that delighted the home crowd in Rome.

SPAIN

Cote d’Ivoire international Nicolas Pepe put Villarreal in the lead in the 53rd minute at Abanca Balaídos, but Celta responded with resilience to earn a dramatic 1-1 draw.

Claudio Giraldez’s side dominated much of the match, controlling possession and creating numerous chances, but struggled with precision in the final third.

Late substitutions revitalised the team, and in the 94th minute, Borja Iglesias headed home a cross from Javi Rueda to equalise.

The result marked Celta’s third consecutive draw, leaving them with a point ahead of their next home clash against Girona.

Meanwhile, Mouctar Diakhaby opened the scoring as Valencia claimed their first win of the season, dominating Getafe 3-0 at Mestalla.

The Guinean defender headed in from a Luis Rioja corner before Arnaut Danjuma doubled the lead in the second half.

Hugo Duro added a stoppage-time goal to cap Valencia’s clinical display, ending a difficult start to the campaign and giving Carlos Corberán’s side a confident boost ahead of their next fixtures.

Elsewhere, Cedric Bakambu scored for Real Betis, but they fell 2-1 at home to Athletic Bilbao. Marc Bartra’s own goal gave Bilbao the lead, but the Congolese equalized in stoppage time, yet Alex Padilla quickly restored Bilbao’s advantage for the win.

GERMANY

Serhou Guirassy scored either side of half-time as Borussia Dortmund secured their first win of the season, defeating Union Berlin 3-0 at Signal Iduna Park.

The striker opened the scoring just before the break and added a second 13 minutes into the second half, assisted by Maximilian Beier, who notched his first assist of the season.

Jobe Bellingham started in midfield before being replaced by Felix Nmecha in the 71st minute, and the German midfielder rounded off Dortmund’s dominant performance with a late third goal, sealing a commanding victory.

FRANCE

Hamza Igamane made a dream debut for Lille at the Stade du Moustoir, coming on at halftime to score twice in Lille’s 7-1 demolition of Lorient

The Moroccan striker, who had only trained once with his new teammates, showcased his technical skill immediately.

His goals in the 80th and 93rd minutes capped a dominant team display, with Lille running rampant after a goalless first half under pouring rain, highlighting Igamane’s instant impact.

Two-goal hero Illan Kebbal played a pivotal role as Paris FC returned to Stade Jean Bouin in Ligue 1 for the first time in 46 years.

After conceding early to Sadibou Sané’s volley from a Guathier Hien corner, Algerian star Kebbal earned and converted a penalty to level the score.

He then orchestrated and finished a flowing move, scoring again in the 51st minute. Although Boubacar Traore equalised shortly after, Paris FC regained the lead through Moses Simon, assisted by Maxime Lopez.

A late red card for Sadibou Sane left Metz with ten men as the home side held on.
