Former Liverpool striker Emile Heskey has spoken about his former club's lull in form and how the international break has come at the perfect time.

Despite Liverpool going on to claim victory in each of their opening six fixtures across all competitions, the Reds have collapsed as of late with defeats to Chelsea, Galatasaray and Crystal Palace

Many have asked why the Premier League champions are suddenly struggling under manager Arne Slot, as fans points to tactics, poor impact from summer signings and a lack of intensity.

Speaking to Tribal Football on behalf of punditarena.com, Heskey believes that the sheer quality of the Premier League means even better sides like Liverpool can suffer and have drops in form.

“I don’t think you can boil it down to just one reason. I think this international break has probably come at a good time for Liverpool.

“Although there will be a lot of players away, the coaching staff will be working on certain things defensively.

“They’ll be watching the tapes back and can really start analysing those performances in depth to say, ‘what do we need to do now going forward?’

“The relentlessness of the Premier League is unforgiving, and it's not just against the top teams, it’s against everyone. You've got to be at it against everyone.”

The fixture list does not get any better for Slot’s side either as they face fierce rivals Manchester United after the break.

A loss could be seriously damaging to Liverpool’s title hopes, and four successive losses could hurt morale even further as Slot attempts to rally his side and bounce back.
