Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola admits they go into their Premier League opener against Liverpool from a "difficult" place.

Over the summer, the Cherries have lost goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga, plus Dean Huijsen, Illia Zabarnyi and Miloš Kerkez from their defensive line.

Kerkez could be lining up against his old club tomorrow night, while Iraola has welcomed Bafode Diakite from Lille this week.

Speaking today, the Spaniard stated the defender is "physically ready", though no decision has yet been made whether he will start at Anfield on Friday.

"He has trained for two days, he has trained well," said the Cherries manager. "He is physically ready to go, just a matter of getting the concepts quickly.

"If not tomorrow, then next week."

On Kerkez, Iraola joked: "I hope he doesn't have the best game tomorrow!

"I wish him all the best. He did very well for us the past two seasons."

Attackers seeking to leave

Meanwhile, in attack, Iraola admits he is also short on options with Justin Kluivert (calf) out injured and Luis Sinisterra unlikely to be considered as he seeks a move away.

Dango Ouattara, who is a target for Brentford, is training today, but Iraola says no decision has been made about whether to include him in the traveling party.

Iraola said, "Pre-season is always the time for preparation but I think it has been a good pre-season. We travelled to the United States and played three very difficult games.

"We are in the first game and a lot of people will be watching us; it will be a big game. It's going to be a good test for us and a place where we can see where we are at."

Short of options

Iraola concedes management needs to get busy in the final weeks of the summer market. While he prepares for tomorrow's opener, Iraola admits his Bournemouth squad are short of numbers.

He said, "It's not about the next step, it's about preparing for the next season.

"We are not where we want to be (with transfers) but there have been a lot of changes and when the transfer market ends, there will have been some important movements. I hope we can adjust and do it quickly so that we can focus on the beginning of the season."
