Leeds United are set to miss out on signing Feyenoord winger Igor Paixao after the Rotterdam side and Olympique Marseille reached an agreement on the transfer of the Brazilian.

Fabrizio Romano and several other transfer experts reported on Monday that a deal is "in place" for Paixao, who reached a personal agreement with Marseille before Leeds United joined the race last week.

After negotiations between Feyenoord and Marseille stalled, Premier League newcomers Leeds United hoped to hijack the deal with an improved bid over that of Olympique Marseille, which was rumoured to be roughly €29 million. Marseille improved their bid, however, and persuaded Feyenoord to agree to a deal with them instead.

The 25-year-old Paixao, who will sign a five-year contract in France, now looks set to leave Feyenoord three years after joining the Rotterdam side from Coritiba in his native Brazil. In 129 games for the Rotterdam giants, Paixao scored 39 goals and provided 23 assists.
