Researchers detected small earthquakes caused by Liverpool fans at Anfield during their victory over Tottenham in the Premier League last Sunday.

The tremors in the ground were recorded by scientists from the University of Liverpool during the 5-1 win that secured the Premier League title for the Reds.

The data revealed that the 60,415 fans present in the stadium generated six seismic events with magnitudes ranging from 0.7 to 1.75 on the Richter scale.

The most significant tremor was caused by Alexis Mac Allister's goal in the 24th minute, which put Liverpool 2-1 up. The midfielder caused the earth to shake at 1.74 on the Richter scale.

The second-biggest tremor, measured at 1.60, occurred after Mohamed Salah's goal - scored in front of the iconic Kop stand in the second period.

Farnaz Kamranzad, one of the researchers who conducted the measurements, told Liverpool FC's website that the experiment "is a great reminder that geoscience can capture the energy of human emotion in powerful and surprising ways".

She added: "They were small tremors, not strong enough to be felt in the stands, but powerful enough to leave a clear and lasting mark at Anfield. Every celebration leaves a trail under our feet, a seismic fingerprint of collective joy, inscribed in the Earth's memory long after the final whistle."
