A heavily criticised world star, the only Jordanian in a top five league and the end of a sensational series: last weekend's winners and losers are a mixture of the familiar and the surprising. Like every Monday, this week Flashscore takes a look at three winners and losers from the previous football weekend.

Winner: Kylian Mbappe

He was much maligned and criticised in his first few months at Real Madrid, but Kylian Mbappe seems to be on the up. In December, he was honoured as Real's player of the month, and in January, the Frenchman added to his tally.

After scoring in the Supercopa and the Copa del Rey, the current runner-up's temporary highlight was his brace and a Flashscore rating of 8.7 in his club's 4-1 triumph over Las Palmas on Sunday.

It was synonymous with Los Blancos' return to the top of LaLiga. They now have a seven-point lead over stumbling rivals Barcelona.

Loser: Antoine Griezmann

One man's joy is another man's sorrow: after an incredible run of 15 consecutive wins, Diego Simeone and Atletico Madrid were beaten 1-0 at Leganes on Saturday. The tragic figure of the evening was Antoine Griezmann, who missed a great chance to equalise in the 90th minute. He flashed a penalty low past the goal and Atletico are now two points behind their city rivals.

The Frenchman also narrowly escaped a red card after getting into a scuffle in the penalty area. His behaviour could well have been interpreted as assault. Incidentally, the goal of the day was scored by former Schalke player Matija Nastasic.

On Tuesday, Atletico will host German champions Bayer Leverkusen in the Champions League.

Winner: Manchester City

Manchester City, on the other hand, returned to form at the weekend. In the 6-0 victory at Ipswich, Pep Guardiola's team shone like in the old days.

Erling Haaland, who signed a bumper contract with the current Premier League champions before the weekend, also got on the scoresheet.

Thanks to their superior goal difference compared to Newcastle United, the Citizens moved up to fourth place, at least temporarily, which would mean qualification for the Champions League. It is fair to say that a conciliatory end to the season is at least back on the cards.

Loser: Ange Postecoglou

We're staying in England. Tottenham coach Ange Postecoglou is under fire after Sunday's 3-2 defeat to Everton and could soon be out of a job. It was the sixth game in a row without a win in the Premier League, with Spurs losing five of them and slipping to 15th place in the table.

"This is not about me, but I have a responsibility to the players. If I focus on something else, I'm shirking my responsibility," said Postecoglou after the match.

After all, the Australian is currently missing 10 regular players through injury. However, if Tottenham lose against Hoffenheim in the Europa League on Thursday (18:45 CET) or against Leicester City the following Sunday (15:00 CET), those responsible could pull the plug on his time in London.

Winner: Mousa Tamari

The name Mousa Tamari is probably not a household name to every football fan. The 27-year-old midfielder is under contract with bottom club Montpellier and, with a Flashscore market value of €6 million, he is not necessarily one of the top stars in Ligue 1.

What makes Tamari special, however, is that he is the only Jordanian in the history of football to have ever been signed in one of the top five leagues.

After this weekend, his name is likely to have found its way into the vocabulary of many European football fans. With a brace in the 2-1 win against fourth-placed AS Monaco, he led his team to an important victory in the relegation battle, and the team has at least begun to close the gap to the safety zone.

Loser: 1. FC Koln

The 2. Bundesliga is extremely tight at the top this season. The top eight teams are currently all separated by three points, so we can expect an exciting race for promotion to the German top flight.

Last year's relegated Koln could easily have pulled away this weekend and generated a cushion of at least four points on a non-promotion place.

However, the Billy Goats were beaten 1-0 in a tough top-of-the-table match at Hamburg and thus lost their lead in the table and pole position in the league. It was their first competitive defeat since October.

"It was definitely a deserved defeat. I'm not happy with the result or the performance. We invested far too little," said managing director Christian Keller
