Wolves will visit Manchester City on Friday in Vitor Pereira's reunion with Pep Guardiola, almost 14 years after the only meeting between the managers, the Portuguese coach told the Lusa news agency.

"It was a fantastic opportunity to play against Guardiola's Barcelona in the European Super Cup almost 14 years ago," Pereira told Lusa.

"We lost, but I remember our display well and how we created a lot of difficulties for (Lionel) Messi, Xavi, (Andres) Iniesta and (Sergio) Busquets' team, which was considered by everyone to be the best in the world at the time."

The first and so far only meeting between the two dates back to August 26th, 2011, in the European Super Cup in Monaco, where Barcelona beat Porto 2-0, with goals from Messi and Cesc Fabregas, in the 39th and 88th minutes respectively, in Pereira's international debut as head coach.

"It will be a pleasure to face Pep Guardiola again, a coach who has made a mark on world football, but my focus is on my team, the spirit we have created at the club, in the city and with the fans," said the Portuguese coach.

The reunion is scheduled for Friday at the Etihad Stadium in the 35th round of the Premier League, which pits 13th-placed Wolves with 41 points against the hosts, fourth with 61, in the round following Liverpool's successor to the four-time champions.

Pereira arrived at Wolves in December 2024 and, since then, has won 10 league games, as many as Manchester City and Arsenal. Only Liverpool (13) and Newcastle (12) have won more games in that period.

"We're in a good moment because of what we've been doing, but that doesn't give you the right to relax, and the players know that.

"I want my team in Manchester to play with the identity we've been creating and to be competitive. Our season isn't over yet, we want the best possible finish," Pereira assured.

Last weekend, Wolves won their sixth game in a row, an unprecedented feat for the club in the Premier League, and the first time they had done so since 1970/71, when they were in Division One.

The game against Manchester City will be the 604th official match of Pereira's career as head coach.

The Portuguese also became the manager with the best start in the Premier League among those who joined mid-season, beating the likes of David Moyes, Ruben Amorim and Graham Potter.

With national titles in Portugal, Greece, China and Saudi Arabia, Pereira is directly on the podium of the most honoured managers currently in the Premier League, only behind Guardiola (40 trophies) and Australian Ange Postecoglou (13), who leads Tottenham.
