Santos have informed the CBF (Brazil's football federation) that Neymar has suffered a thigh oedema. The No. 10 allegedly felt pain during an activity on Thursday. After tests, the injury was confirmed. As a result, the star's return to the Brazilian national team may not happen.

Brazil coach Carlo Ancelotti will announce the squad for the final rounds of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup next Monday, and Neymar's presence will be assessed.

The information was published on the website ge.globo. Neymar is expected to return to Santos on August 31st, when Santos host Fluminense at Vila Belmiro in the Brasileirao. He has already started his treatment.

The player will undergo assessments with the medical department and is unlikely to take part in the first training sessions next week.

Neymar had recently played seven consecutive matches of 90 minutes. In the 2-1 comeback win over Cruzeiro at the Mineirao, he was substituted in stoppage time, but had already played almost the entire match. It was the best streak for the player in a long time, who has made 19 appearances this year and scored six goals.

Santos next take to the field this Sunday, when they visit Bahia at Fonte Nova in the 21st round of the Serie A Brasileirao.
