FC Midtjylland were the big winners of Matchday 21 when they cruised to a 4-1 win in Aalborg while AGF and FC Copenhagen were left to draw in their respective matches against Viborg and Sonderjyske. Elsewhere Lyngby took a hugely surprising 1-0 win in Silkeborg which could have drastic consequences for Kent Nielsen's men in their Top 6 ambitions. FC Midtjylland top the league with 42 points, one ahead of FC Copenhagen and six ahead of AGF.

AGF - Viborg

AGF lost a vital step in their efforts to sneak into the two-horse race between FC Midtjylland and FC Copenhagen for the title. The home side struggled to settle into their usual stylish stride against a well-organized Viborg team who did well to contain the potent Aarhus side whose best chance in the first half came when Viborg keeper accidentally dropped the ball at the feet of Patrik Mortensen who followingly hit the post.

Viborg even managed to take the lead through an own goal by Fredrik Tingager after 53 minutes. The home side then launched a virtual siege on the Viborg goal and managed to restore parity after 77 minutes through Mikael Anderson.

Only a minute later things got even worse for the visitors when Elias Andersson was sent off for a dreadful tackle on Anderson but despite their one-man advantage, AGF couldn’t find a winner in a dramatic finish to the match.

AaB - FC Midtjylland

Struggling AaB restored a bit of morale when they held FC Copenhagen to a goalless draw last weekend. But their hopes of staging another upset against FC Midtjylland were quickly crushed, when the Danish champions raced into a 2-0 lead within the space of 23 minutes through goals from Oliver Sorensen and Victor Bak.

Kasper Jorgensen then threw the home side a lifeline when he cut the deficit deep into stoppage time of the first half, when he scored on a deflected shot past Elias Olafsson.

The visitors then enjoyed a bit of luck when the woodwork saved an effort from Mathias Jorgensen around the hour-mark before Dario Osorio made it 3-1 with a stinging drive 12 minutes from the end. Oliver Sorensen then scored his second of the afternoon shortly before the end to make it 4-1.

Silkeborg - Lyngby

Lyngby who are second but last in the Danish Superliga proved last week that they are a team not to be underestimated when they held Brondby to a 1-1 draw away.

And on Sunday they created another huge surprise when they recorded a sensational 1-0 win away against Silkeborg which could prove fatal for the Jutland-side’s ambitions of qualifying for the Championship playoffs.

Silkeborg had the better of the early action but Lyngby gradually dug themselves back into the match and took a surprise lead after 31minutes when Magnus Jensen squared the ball back for the onrushing Rasmus Thelander who lifted the ball high into the roof of the net.

Silkeborg hit the post twice during the game but thought they had found the equalizer when Callum McCowatt scored shortly before the end but a VAR-check ruled the goal offside.

FC Copenhagen - Sonderjyske

FC Copenhagen had a miserable week when they suffered a 2-1 defeat at home to Chelsea in the Conference League on Thursday and their week turned from bad to worse, when they were held to a a 1-1 draw in Parken Stadium against Jutland-minnows Sonderjyske, who recorded a vital point in their efforts to avoid relegation.

The home side, who were huge favorites going into the match, however, got off to a perfect start when Viktor Claesson headed a pinpoint delivery from Marcus Lopez into the net after only eight minutes of play.

Despite the early setback, the visitors fought valiantly to avoid further damage and instead they stunned the Copenhagen crowd two minutes before the end of the first half, when Lukas Bjorklund equalized after a great assist from Sefer Emini. The home side tried to find the winner but struggled to create clear-cut opportunities during the second half.
