KuPS could easily have taken their foot off the gas with Championship Round football secured and this match falling between the two legs of their UEFA Europa League qualifier with RFS, but they put in a professional performance to win 2-0 away from home.
The two goals arrived at opposite ends of the match - seven minutes in, Jaakko Oksanen set up Ibrahim Cisse for the opener, before the points were secured five minutes from time by Mohamed Toure, scoring his fourth goal in his last three appearances in all competitions.
After a recent upturn in form, it's back-to-back losses for KTP, who remain rooted to the foot of the table, while KuPS are now six unbeaten in the league.
In the battle for the sixth and final Championship Round place, Gnistan have taken the coveted spot with a 5-2 win away at Mariehamn.
Inside the first quarter of an hour, two goals in four minutes from Edmund Arko-Mensah and Rachide Gnanou put the visitors 2-0 ahead, but early in the second half Emmanuel Okereke pulled a goal back for Mariehamn.
That only heralded another purple patch for Gnistan, who were 4-1 up just over 10 minutes later through Artur Atarah and a Joakim Latonen penalty.
Gnanou added a fifth for the Helsinki side, before Okereke also completed a brace and the scoring with 19 minutes still to play. Since their surprise win over KuPS in mid-June, Mariehamn have failed to win any of their seven games and stay ninth.
Gnistan, meanwhile, have overtaken VPS but are still being pushed by Jaro, who also passed the Vaasa side to go seventh with a 2-1 home win over struggling Haka.
All the goals came in the second half - Severi Kahkonen put the hosts in front before Kalle Multanen got Haka back on level terms with 17 minutes to play.
But not for the first time this season, top scorer Kerfala Cissoko was the difference maker for Jaro, scoring his 11th goal of the league campaign. Jaro go unbeaten in three, staying two points shy of Gnistan; Haka are 10th and without a win in six.
On Friday night, Inter Turku made it 19 games played and 19 without tasting defeat, but they were pushed all the way by AC Oulu before grabbing a 3-2 win.
Goals either side of half time from Jean Botue and Dimitri Legbo put Inter Turku 2-0 up, but there would be no coasting to victory for the hosts, as Julius Korkko struck twice in six minutes around the hour mark to level things up.
Oulu were holding on for an impressive point, only for their hearts to be broken two minutes from time by Florian Krebs, whose winner extended the leaders' winning run to three, while the visitors suffered successive losses for the first time since mid-June.
