Argentina didn't even have to take to the field on Tuesday to secure an early place in the 2026 World Cup. Bolivia's goalless draw with Uruguay in El Alto confirmed the Albiceleste's qualification ahead of the derby against Brazil, which takes place later in the day.

With the extension of the World Cup to 48 teams, the South American qualifiers offer six direct places and one more contestant to a playoff tie.

Argentina have 28 points from 13 games and can no longer be overtaken by Bolivia (seventh), who have 14 points from 14 games.

Reigning world champions Argentina will be playing in their 14th World Cup in a row. The last edition without them was in 1970 in Mexico, won by Brazil.

The 2026 World Cup will be hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada. The tournament will take place between 11 June and 19 July.

Teams qualified for the 2026 World Cup:

Hosts: Canada, United States, Mexico

South America: Argentina

Asia: Iran, Japan

Oceania: New Zealand
