On Wednesday, the otherwise in-form Dane lost to the Russian Veronika Kudermetova, who won 3-6, 7-6, 6-4.
The match was interrupted for about three hours due to rain, and it took just two games and a few minutes to settle it after the interruption.
Tauson has only herself to thank for not having a shorter and more successful day at the office.
The Dane won the first set and was up with a break against a frustrated Russian in the second set, but after smashing a racket in a fit of rage, Kudermetova turned the match around.
Tauson also led 3-0 in the second set tiebreak, but squandered the lead.
Ahead 2-1 in the third set, Tauson was forced to take a medical timeout to have a physical therapist treat the area around the hip.
The Dane received treatment again when she had fallen behind 2-3 shortly after.
Then followed a rain interruption of approximately three hours, and when the players returned the Dane did not have the ability to mobilize a comeback.
It seems highly unlikely that Tauson will be able start in the doubles match that should have started later Wednesday.
