The top seeds are Alexander Zverev and Aryna Sabalenka while the defending champions are Carlos Alcaraz and Iga Swiatek... but who will take the titles this year in California?

17:48 CET - Hello and welcome to the opening day of Indian Wells!

You're probably familiar with what is one of the biggest events on the tennis calendar, but in case you need a refresher, it's an outdoor hard-court Masters and WTA 1000 held in the Californian desert.

The vast majority of the world's biggest names are there this year with Jannik Sinner being the only high-profile player absent due to his three-month doping suspension.

Today is a day for those looking to emerge as surprise packages, though with the seeded players all automatically advancing to the second round. However, there are still a number of big names in action including Petra Kvitova, Kei Nishikori, Victoria Azarenka and Naomi Osaka

The action will begin in just over two hours, and in the meantime, check out the men's schedule here and the women's schedule here.
