Danish tennis player Clara Tauson was eliminated from the WTA 500 tournament in Monterrey, Mexico, early Friday morning CET.
Tauson lost her quarter-final match against France's Diane Parry, 3-6, 5-7. Parry is ranked 50th in the world, while Tauson is ranked No. 42.
Parry managed to break the Dane's serve early on and subsequently comfortably secured the first set. Tauson sought a comeback in the second set and quickly managed to break Parry's serve to take a 2-0 lead.
The Dane went up 5-3 and held three set points, but the momentum shifted. Parry narrowed the score to 4-5, and after Tauson subsequently lost her serve, the Frenchwoman was able to clinch the victory.
23-year-old Tauson is set to play in the US Open in a few days.
In the first round, she will face former World No. 3 Sloane Stephens. Stephens, who is ten years her senior, won the US Open back in 2017. The following year, she reached the final of the same Grand Slam tournament.
In the second round of the US Open, Tauson could potentially face the 11th-seeded Marta Kostyuk from Ukraine. In the third round, her opponent might be Ekaterina Alexandrova, whom Tauson defeated this week in Mexico.
