There were different outcomes for Clara Tauson and August Holmgren on Wednesday afternoon as Tauson's disappointing season continued with a 1-6, 5-7 defeat against Romania's Jaqueline Christian, while Holmgren moved within one match of qualifying for the French Open when he defeated the 17-year-old Frenchman Daniel Jade 6-3, 6-3.

Danish tennis player Clara Tauson on Wednesday lost in her final warm-up tournament for the French Open, which begins on Sunday in Paris.

After having a bye in the first round, fourth-seeded Tauson lost to the Romanian Jaqueline Cristian 1-6, 5-7.

After a terrible first set, Tauson improved tremendously, but it was not enough to avoid defeat against the World No. 33.

Tauson, who has dropped to 21st in the rankings after being ranked 14th at the beginning of the year, has had a difficult few months marked by injuries, especially in her back.

She has withdrawn from several tournaments and also had to pull out of matches in both Miami and Rome.

On Wednesday, she managed to complete a match for the first time since 8 March but came up short against Christian.

August Holmgren had a better day at the office and is just one win away from qualifying for the main draw of the French Open.

On Wednesday, he defeated the 17-year-old French wild card player Daniel Jade 6-3, 6-3 in the second round of the qualifying tournament.

Holmgren was just one level above the talented Frenchman, who is ranked 1447th in the world.

The serve in particular gave the Dane a big lead, and he gave up almost nothing in his own games.
