It's a busy day of first-round action at the Canadian Open, with plenty of notable names taking to the court at the ATP event in Toronto and the WTA tournament in Montreal.

06:10 CET - Maria Sakkari defeats Canadian Carson Branstine on her home court 6-2, 3-6, 7-5.

The win marks Sakkari's first in Montreal since 2021. 

05:30 CET - Canadian Alexis Galarneau puts on a show for the home crowd, stunning Arthur Rinderknech in straight sets 7-6, 6-3

05:00 CET - Antonia Ruzic defeats Anastasia Potapova after a flawless third set 2-6, 7-5, 6-0.

03:35 CET - Pablo Carreno-Busta played spoiler for Canada's own Liam Draxl, taking down the Newmarket native 2-6, 6-4, 6-4.

The former champ's hopes stay alive!

03:30 CET - Canada's own Eugenie Bouchard wins on her home court after taking down Emiliana Arango 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.

It's Bouchard's first win in the Montreal Open since 2016 and her first tour-level win since 2023. 

03:15 CET - Fabian Marozsan makes quick work of Hugo Dellien, defeating him 6-2, 6-2 in 64 minutes. 

Heading into the match, Marozsan had won just over 75% of service games on hardcourts - he won 88% against Dellien. 

02:50 CET - Anastasija Sevastova defeats Ajla Tomljanovic 6-3, 3-6, 6-4 after the latter committed 13 double faults in the match. 

02:00 CET - Matteo Gigante battles it out to the very end against Borna Coric, ultimately earning the win 4-6, 6-4, 7-6.

The Italian will go on to face Gabriel Diallo in the next round. 

01:30 CET - Lucia Bronzetti battles back after losing the first set to defeat Elizabeth Mandlik 4-6, 7-6, 6-2.

Bronzetti took a medical timeout during the first set to address back problems, but fought on and will now face Clara Tauson in the next round.

00:55 CET - Renata Zarazua defeats Katie Boulter in straight sets 6-1, 7-5.

The win marks Zarazua's fourth win against a top-50 player. She will take on Jeļena Ostapenko in the next round.

00:40 CET - Roberto Carballes Baena advances with a 6-4, 4-1 win after Camilo Ugo Carabelli retired in the second set due to a forearm injury. 

Carabelli was attended to when down 1-2 in the second set then played on until the pain was too much for the Argentinian.

22:58 CET - Naomi Osaka has just completed her first match in Montreal since 2018, and it was a happy return for the four-time Grand Slam champion, with her beating Canadian qualifier Ariana Arseneault 6-4, 6-2.

Marie Bouzkova is also through, while French veteran Adrian Mannarino has beaten Marcos Giron 6-4, 6-4 on the men's side of the draw.

21:46 CET - Joao Fonseca has fallen at the first hurdle! The young star has been beaten 7-6, 6-4 by Australian qualifier Tristan Schoolkate.

21:24 CET  - Wimbledon quarter-finalist Laura Siegemund has won a brutal battle with fellow German Tatjana Maria, prevailing 7-5, 6-7, 7-6 after three and a half hours! 

21:12 CET - Emma Raducanu is through, with the Brit beating Elena Gabriela Ruse of Belgium 6-2, 6-4 in just over an hour and a half. The former US Open champion is playing really well at the moment.

20:45 CET - Anna Blinkova has advanced with a 6-4, 6-1 win over American player Caroline Dolehide.

19:57 CET - Jaume Munar has eased into the next round in Toronto, with the Spaniard sweeping aside Dan Martin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-0.

19:09 CET - Qualifier Kamilla Rakhimova is through in Montreal after coming from behind to win 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 over Kayla Cross.

Over in Toronto, Ethan Quinn and Yunchaokete Bu have progressed courtesy of straight-set victories.

18:34 CET - Over to Montreal, where we have had a bit of an upset, with Chinese qualifier Hanyu Guo taking out world number 46 Yulia Putintseva 6-3, 6-3.

Meanwhile, Belgian veteran David Goffin is out of the tournament in Toronto following a 6-4, 6-4 defeat to American Mackenzie McDonald.

18:30 CET - Our first result in from today's play as Christopher O'Connell has dispatched lucky loser Chun Hsin Tseng 6-1, 6-2 in just 77 minutes.

15:55 CET - Play is about to get underway in both Toronto and Montreal, with veteran German duo Tatjana Maria and Laura Siegemund set to do battle from 16:10 CET.
