The new tennis season continues to ramp up, with several of the world's best players taking to the court in Australia, New Zealand and Hong Kong.

 

21:45 CET - Finally from tonight, there is big action from the United Cup as Poland takes on the Czech Republic with top spot up for grabs before Kazakstan faces Germany.

13:40 CET - Anhelina Kalinina (27) was the final winner of the day in Brisbane, with the Ukrainian beating fifth seed Diana Shnaider (20) 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, Kei Nishikori (35) rolled back the years with a convincing 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Denis Shapovalov (25).

11:58 CET - Over in Auckland, third seed Amanda Anisimova (23) has been dumped out in the opening round after a 6-2, 2-6, 3-6 defeat to compatriot Alycia Parks (24).

11:17 CET - Top seed Novak Djokovic (37) has made a winning start in Brisbane, defeating home favourite Rinky Hijikata (23) in comfortable fashion, 6-3, 6-3.

Ons Jabeur (30) was also victorious, with the Tunisian showing glimpses of her best form in a relatively routine 6-3, 6-2 win over Ekaterina Alexandrova (30).

09:55 CET - Taylor Fritz (27) was in formidable form overnight, cruising past Borna Coric (28) 6-3, 6-2 as Team USA dispatched Croatia 3-0 in the United Cup, while Jasmine Paolini's (28) 6-0, 6-2 triumph over Chloe Paquet (30) helped Italy whitewash France.

09:33 CET - There have been plenty of notable results in Brisbane overnight, with fourth seed Frances Tiafoe (26) seeing off Adam Walton (25) 7-6(5), 6-3 and talented Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard (21) battling past Nick Kyrgios (29) 7-6(2), 6-7(4), 7-6(3) on the Aussie's long-awaited return to the singles court.

Meanwhile, on the women's side of the draw, world number one Aryna Sabalenka (26) swept aside Renata Zarazua (27) 6-4, 6-0, as seeded players Paula Badosa (27), Anna Kalinskaya (26) and Jelena Ostapenko (27) all fell to defeat.
