It's a busy day of first-round action at the Canadian Open, with plenty of notable names taking to the court at the ATP event in Toronto and the WTA tournament in Montreal.

05:55 CET - Canadian Victoria Mboko takes down the American Sofia Kenin 6-2, 6-3 in Montreal.

This now makes it Mboko's fifth top 50 win.

05:06 CET - Adam Walton put up a fight, but Alexander Zverev showed everyone why he's the world's No. 3 with a 7-6, 6-4 win to advance.

05:03 CET - Matteo Arnaldi bests Tristan Schoolkate 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 to advance in Toronto.

04:17 CET - Another upset, but this time in Toronto on the men's side, Reilly Opelka defeats Tomas Machac 7-6, 6-7, 6-3.

04:15 CET - Staying in Montreal, Suzan Lamens upsets world's No. 21 Beatriz Haddad Maia 6-2, 1-6, 6-3.

04:10 CET - Despite 23 double faults, Coco Gauff held on to beat Danielle Collins 7-5, 4-6, 7-6 with an ace after an almost three-hour match.

Gauff has now won eight of her last 10 matches.

04:00 CET - Daniil Medvedev advances after beating Dalibor Svrcina in straight sets 7-6, 6-4.

02:45 CET - American Learner Tien upsets Denis Shapovalov 7-6, 7-5 on his home court in Toronto.

02:40 CET - After an intense first two sets, Nuno Borges emerges victorious over Facundo Bagnis 5-7, 7-6, 6-2.

01:40 CET - Spain's Jaume Munar couldn't complete the comeback as he fell to Argentinian Francisco Cerundolo, who advanced to the next round after 7-6, 4-6, 6-4 in Toronto.  

01:35 CET - Elena Rybakina was too much for Hailey Baptiste, defeating her 6-4, 6-3.

Rybakina put up 11 aces and 18 winners en route to her 34th win of 2025. 

00:43 CET - Casper Ruud takes care of Roman Safiullin in straight sets 6-3, 6-3 to advance in Toronto. 

23:59 CET - World number 17 Diana Shnaider has lost a two-hour battle with Marie Bouzkova, who prevailed 6-2, 7-6 in Montreal.

23:38 CET - More seeds have fallen, with Tallon Griekspoor and Ashlyn Krueger both losing in straight sets.

22:58 CET - The seventh seed is out in Montreal, with young Japanese talent Aoi Ito beating Jasmine Paolini 2-6, 7-5, 7-6 in a two and a half hour battle.

Things have gone better for men's 18th seed Alexei Popyrin, who has claimed a 7-6, 6-2 win over Nicolas Arseneault.

22:03 CET - World number 10 Lorenzo Musetti has claimed his first win since the French Open quarter-finals, beating James Duckworth 7-5, 6-1.

21:30 CET - Anna Kalinskaya has made it through with a 7-6, 0-6, 6-3 win over Ann Li, while 24th seed Marta Kostyuk has beaten former Wimbledon champion Marketa Vondrousova 2-6, 6-3, 6-2.

Vondrousova isn't the only Czech name to go out, with 20th seed Linda Noskova losing 6-3, 6-4 to Jaqueline Cristian.

20:43 CET - In another blow for Canadian hopes, Bianca Andreescu has pulled out of her match with Mirra Andreeva due to an ankle injury that she picked up in the final game of her first-round win.

Over in Toronto meanwhile, 11th seed Karen Khachanov has beaten Juan Pablo Ficovich 6-4, 6-2 to advance.

20:08 CET - In a big disappointment for the home crowd, Leylah Fernandez has been beaten 6-4, 6-1 by Australian talent Maya Joint.

Big things were expected of Fernandez after she won the Washington title last week, but she's fallen at the first hurdle.

19:55 CET - The first big name through on the men's side today sees Holger Rune return to form with an impressive display against hot prospect Giovanni Perricard.

After edging the first set tie-break, Rune then showed his quality in the second set to outsmart the big-serving Frenchman and claim a 7-6 (9-7), 6-3 victory.

19:45 CET - 30th seed Dayana Yastremska has come from a set down against exciting Colombian Camila Osorio to win 3-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-2.

18:22 CET - Navarro's win was closely followed by another dominant display as Australian number one Daria Kasatkina defeated Anna Blinkova 6-1, 6-4.

18:15 CET - The first winner of the day comes from Montreal and world number 11 Emma Navarro, who has wasted no time in beating Rebecca Marino 6-1, 6-2 to progress.

14:30 CET - Over to the ATP tour and Toronto, there is a fascinating match to look forward to early evening between rising star Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard and fifth seed Holger Rune.

Whilst Mpetshi Perricard has been making his name for himself in the last year or so, Rune has been struggling with form and fitness in a challenging spell in his career.

Also in action in Toronto tonight are third seed Lorenzo Musetti, Casper Ruud, Daniil Medvedev and number one seed Alexander Zverev.

14:00 CET - With lots of exciting matchups to look forward to, let's take a look at the must-see encounters this afternoon. 

First up in Montreal today (with action getting underway from 17:00 CET), world number 11 Emma Navarro takes on home favourite Rebecca Marino.

That is followed by another home favourite, Leylah Fernandez, who is full of confidence after winning her first title on the WTA tour since 2023 in Washington last week, against the exciting Aussie teenager Maya Joint.

Other big names in Montreal action are Marketa Vondrusova, Mirra Andreeva and Elena Rybakina.
