Second seed Iga Swiatek is through to the third round of the US Open after eliminating the last standing Dutch player at Flushing Meadows, Suzan Lamens, in three sets: 6-1, 4-6, 6-4.

After Swiatek made light work of eliminating Emiliana Arango after 61 minutes in the first round, US Open rookie Suzan Lamens became the Polish phenom's next opponent after her straight-sets win over wild card Valerie Glozman.

One-time US Open winner Swiatek opened the match emphatically and broke Lamens first time of asking as she raced out to a 1-0 lead in sets. The Dutch 66th-ranked player only managed to get to break point once and did not record a single winner, as opposed to Swiatek's nine.

An up-and-down second set started with Lamens bringing the fight to Swiatek, who was forced to defend two break points at 1-0 up. After fending off Lamens' opening move, Swiatek went up a break with her second break point of the set.

However, Lamens did not back down and broke her opponent with a love game the very next game. Swiatek managed to get a break back in the seventh game, but could not defend a storming Lamens as the Dutchwoman claimed her first set win in dazzling fashion.

A bravely fighting Lamens could not keep up with Swiatek at the start of the third set, which the Polish ace quickly took control of with four consecutive won games. A break from Lamens did not matter in the end, as Swiatek ended the game on her third match point after some stellar defence.

Swiatek kept her US Open bid alive with a gritty win over Suzan Lamens, who'll look back upon her US Open debut with pride. Swiatek's next opponent will be the Russian 29th-ranked Anna Kalinskaya after her straight-sets win over Yulia Putintseva.
