Clara Tauson was hugely upset with chair umpire Kader Nouni when she suffered one of her career's most agonizing defeats as she, after leading 5-1 in the decisive set, lost 6-3, 2-6, 7-6 til Alexandra Eala from the Philippines in a three-set thriller.

Tauson felt Nouni made a clear error in judgment when she was serving at 15-30, leading 5-4 in the third set.

On the second serve, Eala moved forward to intercept a short return and hit a low volley near the net. Tauson immediately challenged the point, pointing out that the ball had not fully crossed the net before Eala made contact, a violation under tennis rules concerning net-crossing by the racket.

Nouni used the Hawk-Eye system to review the point and subsequently ruled that Eala’s racket had not crossed the net prematurely, awarding her the point.

"It was definitely the wrong decision. My coach and physiotherapist say the same thing, and my coach (Kasper Elsvad, ed.) always tells me if I'm wrong."

"It was a wrong decision. I don't know how it's possible when the referee can see it on video. Maybe the referee felt pressure because the whole stadium was supporting her; I don't know," says Tauson.

Tauson subsequently lost the game on a double fault and fell mentally apart even though she forced the game into a tiebreaker where Eala converted her fifth match point to win the match.

Eala’s historic triumph marks the first main-draw Grand Slam victory by a Filipino player in the Open Era.
