Holger Rune has withdrawn from the ATP tournament in Washington, the Mubadala Citi DC Open due to lower back pain.

The Dane was set to compete as the third seed at the hard-court ATP 500 in Washington D.C., but his spot in the draw has been taken by Corentin Moutet. Lucky loser Moutet will take on his fellow Frenchman Alexandre Muller in the second round.

"Super unlucky," Rune wrote on social media. "Yesterday in practice my back locked and I am not fit to play today. I tried it before and nothing dramatic, just super bad timing, as I looked very much forward to play tonight in Washington. See you all soon."
