The 11th seeded Alex de Minaur on Saturday evening brought August Holmgren's Wimbledon-adventure to an end as the Australian prevailed 6-4, 7-6, 6-3 to secure his ticket to the fourth round of the Grand Slam tournament.

August Holmgren's sensational Wimbledon adventure came to an end on Saturday after the Dane lost in three sets to world number 11, Alex de Minaur, in the third round.

De Minaur is renowned for his great defense, and the Australian forced the Dane to work extremely hard during his service games in the first set and de Minaur finally used his eighth break point at 4-4 to turn the tide in his favour.

Subsequently de Minaur kept his cool to win the first set as Holmgren lost the first set for the first time in the tournament.

Holmgren, however, remained completely unaffected and it was almost a new and improved version of Holmgren who came out for the second set as he only gave up two points in his first three service games.

However, just like in the first set, de Minaur broke at 4-4 but in the following game Holmgren showed amazing resilience to break back despite initially wasting three break points.

But in the tiebreak Holmgren failed to show the coolness he had otherwise displayed throughout the tournament as de Minaur resisted everything that Holmgren threw at him to take a 2-0 lead.

Holmgren looked visibly deflated from the beginning of the third set and failed to challenge de Minaur to the same level that he had otherwise done in the first two sets.

Holmgren can, however, take comfort from the fact that three wins in the qualifying round and two in the main tournament is currently enough for him to advance 46 places in the world rankings in the live standings.

At the same time Holmgren earned no less than £152,000 pounds through his efforts at Wimbledon.
