Following an excellent round of play, here is one stat from each match that took place.
Inter on the board, Arsenal get over the line
7 - Inter Milan's Haley Bugeja scored the first goal of the UEFA Women's Champions League proper this term, needing just five minutes to do so. That did the trick for the Nerazzurre, who held on to prevail 1-0 over last term's UEFA Women's Europa Cup winners BK Hacken. It could not have been a better start for Inter, who are making their debut in the competition proper. Hacken, who eliminated Inter in the Europa Cup en route to the title, have now lost seven matches in the UWCL group phase in what is their third appearance.
8 - Tuesday's other early kickoff produced the drama in Bavaria, as Manchester City battled back from two goals down to earn a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich. Khadija Shaw's failed penalty just past the hour mark came back to haunt the Cityzens, who levelled four minutes from time. Bayern, participating in Europe for the 13th time, conceded multiple goals at home in continental play for the eighth time. However, they have never let in more than two.
5 - The other game on Tuesday to end all square came in the Spanish capital, where Real Madrid's early goal against Paris Saint-Germain through summer signing Felicia Schroder was cancelled out towards the end by the two-time finalists. It ended 1-1 in what was a very even match. PSG failed to make it out of the league phase last fall, but can be satisfied with the point against Real. Las Blancas are now five matches without defeat against French opposition (2-3-0), with the other four coming in 2025/26.
9 - Almost a year on from losing to the same team, Benfica open their UWCL campaign with an impressvie 2-1 defeat of Juventus on the road. A Marit Bratberg brace - scoring once in either half - did the trick for the Portuguese champions. Having lost by the same score to commence last year's edition, As Aguias could not have asked for a better start. Juve did score late on to make the match interesting, but it proved not to be enough. That late goal ensured that Benfica are nine away matches in Europe without a clean sheet. Their last one came in qualifying three years ago agianst Apollon Limassol.
6 - It took 93 minutes for Arsenal to finally break down HB Koge after a spirited effort from the Danes saw them frustrate the WSL club. Nineteen shots later, the Gunnes finally found a way through. Mariona Caldentey was the hero from the penalty spot in a 1-0 victory. It will be a welcomed relief for Arsenal, who last won a matchday 1 clash in the competition four years ago. AS for Koge, they were held off the scoresheet for the sixth time in European action. Of those six occasions, five of them have come at this point
Lyonnes, Barca with statement results
39 - OL Lyonnes, last May's defeated finalists, held no prisoners in their clash away to Servette. A Marie-Antoinette Katoto hat-trick played a role in their 8-0 demolition of the Swiss outfit. The result hardly surprised anyone, with Lyonnes mustering 31 attempts to Servette's one. As if they did not need any more help, Les Grenat also gave up a pair of own goals during the heavy loss. L'OL maintained their perfect record versus teams from Switzerland. Their goal tally, however, is at 39 from just six games. That is a whopping 6.5 goals a game.
3 - The only match of the round to see no goals came in Belgium, where OH Leuven and AS Roma played to a scoreless draw. Unlike last year's meeting, which ended 1-1, neither club could make the most of their opportunities to break the deadlock at Den Dreef. That almost changed in stoppage time, but Marta Pandini could not convert a penalty for the Giallorosse. Leuven have now been involved in three goalless matches in European play.
16 - Ever-presents in the UWCL group phase, Chelsea are off and running. They were made to work for it at home to Austria Wien. Wieke Kaptein scored the only goal 11 minutes in, giving the English team a 1-0 win. Despite their heavy underdog status, FAK created more chances over the 90 minutes, but they could not breach the Cheslea defence to restore parity. The Blues remain undefeated in home games in the group phase, which is now at 16 (12-4-0).
22 - Paris FC could not have asked for a better start against Barcelona, scoring five minutes into the contest. That was the best it got for them, as the Catalans rattled four pasrt their French opponents before the break. Adding a fifth with 20 minutes to play, the job was all but done. PFC did get one back, but it was too little, too late as they fell 5-2. Many consider Barca favourites to go all the way once more, and it showed in this performance. Barca have scored five or more goals in a European match for the 22nd time.
