Denmark now has two wins and one loss at the European Championship, where four of six teams in each preliminary group advance to the Round of 16, held in Italy and Bulgaria.
The Danes are well on their way to achieving this following their victory over Estonia and an equally surprising win against the Netherlands on Saturday.
Denmark has been drawn into a tough group at the European Championship, facing only teams that were ranked higher in the world rankings before the tournament.
The two remaining teams in the group are Belgium and Serbia.
Sports Director Sebastian Mikelsons stated before the tournament that advancing from the group stage would be the greatest achievement in the history of the Danish national volleyball team.
Last summer, Denmark won a European Championship qualifying group for the first time - finishing ahead of Turkey, a team that reached the quarter-finals of the 2025 World Championship.
In this summer's European League, the Danes won all six of their matches in the league phase. One of those victories was against the Czech Republic, a team that finished fourth at the World Championship.
Saturday's victory is another feather in their cap and boosts their world ranking, putting Denmark in a stronger position ahead of the World Championship qualifiers.
