Toronto Blue Jays shortstop Bo Bichette will miss the rest of the regular season with a sprained knee, according to the team.

After seeking a second opinion on Tuesday, it was revealed that Bichette didn't sustain any structural damage, meaning he doesn't need surgery.

Bichette was placed on the 10-day injured list after he sprained his knee sliding into home plate during their game on September 6th against the Yankees

"He's not gonna be back for the regular season," said manager John Schneider. "But I think just working hard to be back as soon as he can after."

"Nothing further is required other than kind of rest and rehab and getting back as soon as he can."

"In a perfect world, if he can come back and play short, yeah, great. But if we can get his bat back, I'll take it."

Despite missing the last eight games, Bichette still leads the league in both hits (181) and doubles (44), slashing a career-best .311/.357/.483 with 18 home runs and 94 RBI.

Toronto boasted an American League East division-leading 88-62 record heading into Tuesday's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

They have 11 games left on their schedule, with their regular season finale being on September 28th, also against the Rays.

If the Blue Jays can hang on to their division lead, it'll be the first time since 2015 that they took the AL East crown.
