Torino denied Fiorentina’s second-half fightback after Guillermo Maripan’s 94th-minute equaliser earned Il Toro a 2-2 draw and a third consecutive head-to-head stalemate.

Both teams had chances to open the scoring in an engaging opening 10 minutes at Stadio Artemio Franchi. Torino forward Sandro Kulenovic saw his effort deflect agonisingly wide, shortly before Moise Kean lifted a bouncing ball over the crossbar at the opposite end of the pitch.

Both sides continued to show great intent, so it was only a matter of time before the opening goal arrived in the first period.

Cesare Casadei, who missed Wednesday’s Coppa Italia defeat to Inter through illness, was the one to find the breakthrough, steering a header home from Emirhan Ilkhan’s inch-perfect cross after being played onside by Fiorentina right-back Dodo.

After falling behind, the hosts faced further frustration when Marco Brescianini and Rolando Mandragora were denied in quick succession by Alberto Paleari’s reflexes, ensuring the visitors went into the break with a lead for just the second time in a Serie A match this term.

As it proved, that slender lead quickly disappeared as Fiorentina flew out of the blocks to turn the game in their favour within 15 minutes of the restart.

Manor Solomon levelled the scoreline with a stunning strike from distance, curling the ball beyond the outstretched goalkeeper to net in a second consecutive game.

Minutes later, Solomon started the move that saw another winter signing, Jack Harrison, tee up Moise Kean for an emphatic first-time finish that left Paleari with little time to react.

After losing all momentum, Marco Baroni’s side offered little threat of an equaliser until they found a second wind in the closing stages of the contest.

Duvan Zapata fired a warning when he saw his effort saved by David de Gea, who was beaten just moments later. Maripan towered high in the box to glance a free-kick into the far corner, ensuring the hosts remain in the bottom three following a third consecutive league game without a win.
