Veszprem's Danish international goalkeeper Emil Nielsen has firmly denied rumors linking him with a move to SG Flensburg-Handewitt

In October 2026, social media accounts and select media reports claimed that Nielsen was in talks with German Bundesliga outfit Flensburg for a potential move as early as the summer of 2027.

According to the Hungarian media outlet Blikk, a potential move was primarily due to Hungary’s new government, which intends to amend the country’s tax rules starting next year. These changes would limit favorable tax arrangements for sports stars.

But Nielsen who has been a key player for Denmark in winning Olympic gold as well as World - and European championships, denies that he is on his way to Northern Germany.

"There is no truth to the rumours. I have a three-year contract with Veszprém, and that is what I’m focusing on right now. As for what happens in the future—we’ll see", says Nielsen to bt.dk.

Nielsen has heard about the rumours of tax changes in Hungary but isn't keen om talking about the issue.

"As far as I understand, it’s still just a proposal. It’s not something that occupies our squad in Veszprém—not until there’s something concrete", he says.

Emil Nielsen will be in action on Wednesday for the Danish national team, when they face Spain in the EHF Euro Cup.
