The Danish reserves were handed a rare chance to shine when Nikolaj Jacobsen's second-string side put Greece to the sword in a comfortable 38-24 win in the final test before the European Championships.

It never turned out to be a great handball match, but on Saturday afternoon the Danish national team recorded a comfortable large win against Greece in the last test match before the European Championships on home soil.

Nikolaj Jacobsen tested several different formations both offensively and defensively, and this was reflected in the match.

The Danes made a fairly high number of technical errors throughout the match but still won convincingly 38-24.

From the beginning of the match, it was clear that the national team coach had intended to use the last test match to give some of the lesser names in the squad a chance to shine.

Mads Svane started in the back line, and did well. In the first ten minutes, the Bjerringbro-Silkeborg player was the man behind almost all attacking moves.

The 23-year-old playmaker showed great energy in his finishing and also had an eye for his colleagues. Simon Hald, among others, benefited from this on the line.

On the right wing, Nikolaj Jacobsen tested the HSV Hamburg player Frederik Bo Andersen, and he also duly delivered with several goals.

But the fact that most of the players haven't played much together became more and more apparent as the half progressed.

The Danes made one mistake after another but the Greeks are not an impressive handball team, so Denmark led by seven at the break.

In the second half, it was time for Mathias Gidsel to get into action.

The national coach wanted to test a lineup where he and Mads Hoxer, who are both left-handed and actually play in the same position, were on the court at the same time.

Not surprisingly, Mathias Gidsel immediately distinguished himself as both a goal scorer and an assistmaker, and the big Danish star seems to be fully ready for the European Championship.

Denmark play their first game against Northern Macedonia on 16 January.
