The 38-year-old Norwegian former international winger Camilla Herrem has made an incredible return to action just two months after being diagnosed with cancer.

On 26 June, she announced on Instagram that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer. Shortly afterwards, she appeared completely bald on Norwegian television in a touching segment, where she said that the treatment had gone so well that she could now dream of being back on the handball court at the start of the season, and the club has now confirmed that she is, according to dagbladet.no.

She was part of the Sola squad that travelled to Oppsal on Sunday, where they began the new season in the Norwegian women's handball Rema 1000 league.

Norwegian TV 2's handball expert Bent Svele is surprised to say the least that the cancer-stricken star is already back on the court.

"What can I say? It's a bit unbelievable. Not many people would have believed it. I suddenly saw a training match in Viborg, where she ran down the left wing. I jumped up in my chair. The fact that she can do this after what she's been through, it's absolutely crazy", says Svele to Dagbladet.

After the test matches, she said that it was something special to be back.

"It was really good to be on the court again, but there were a lot of 'first times' that I had to go through. Coming out into the arena without hair and warming up. I had to get into my own zone, because there was an extremely large number of people watching", she said.

Herrem brought down the curtain on her international career after the European Championship final against Denmark in December last year. Herrem won two Olympic gold medals, two Olympic bronze medals, three World Cup gold medals, two World Cup silver medals, one World Cup bronze medal, six European Championship gold medals, and one European Championship silver medal during her international career.
