Four games occurred in the National Hockey League (NHL) on Wednesday night, but all of the headlines will focus on the game in Tampa Bay, which produced 10 goals.

A wild seven-goal first period made the price of admission quite worth it for the fans at the Benchmark International Arena. There, the New York Rangers ultimately prevailed 7-3 versus the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Will Cuylle opened the scoring 69 seconds in after Yanni Gourde had put the Bolts in a man disadvantage situation. J.T. Miller doubled the lead a few moments later.

From there, the Lightning and Rangers traded goals for the remainder of the first period. By the time the intermission had come, Jake Guentzel's goal two and half minutes before the frame's completion made it 4-3 for the guests.

Perhaps the last two periods could be seen as a letdown in comparison to the excitement brought in the opening stanza. Vincent Trocheck added a fifth for New York, before doubling his tally five minutes into the third. Cuylle followed suit with netting his second of the night to round out the scoring.

The Rangers go up to seventh spot in the Eastern Conference after that win, jumping ahead of the Lightning.

Overtime was required in Philadelphia, as the Edmonton Oilers edged the Flyers 2-1. Evan Bouchard gave the guests the lead just as the opening period was coming to an end. Matvey Michkov tied things up for the hosts in the second to the home fans' delight.

However, the Oilers, who reached the Stanley Cup final last year, pulled through in the extra frame. Jack Roslovic got them the extra point with a winner a minute and change in. It was the second consecutive game that Edmonton won in overtime.

The Utah Mammoth topped the Buffalo Sabres 5-2 at home, while the New Jersey Devils battled past the Chicago Blackhawks in overtime, 4-3.
