Overseeing his first Serie A home game as Juventus boss, Luciano Spalletti saw his side quickly establish control of possession in the derby clash, although he would have been frustrated by his team’s failure to regularly turn their on-ball dominance into clear-cut chances in the first period.
The hosts had to wait until the 41st minute for their best opportunity of the half, as Francisco Conceicao cleverly worked his way into the right side of the box, before his driven effort required Alberto Paleari to make a fingertip stop to send the two teams into the break on level terms.
Torino offered little in an attacking sense before the break, but Giovanni Simeone required just three minutes to find the net after the restart. However, the Napoli loanee had his celebrations cut short by the assistant’s flag, with VAR confirming he had failed to time his run to the relief of the home support.
Undeterred by that disallowed effort, Torino continued to trouble the Juventus backline, with half-time substitute, Che Adams, neatly working the space to force Di Gregorio to make a strong save down low to his left.
Di Gregorio’s opposite number, Paleari, was then needed to make two crucial interventions in quick succession. First, the Torino goalkeeper smothered Jonathan David’s close-range effort, before he showcased his quick reactions to keep out Weston McKennie’s header.
The Old Lady continued to press forward in a bid to carve out a late winner, but they ultimately ran out of time against their stubborn neighbours, leaving Spalletti with a tinge of disappointment despite extending his unbeaten start to three matches (W1, D2).
The point leaves Juventus in fifth place for the time being, while Torino are five points adrift in 11th spot following the third goalless draw of the day in Serie A.
