For the second successive year Mathias Gidsel has been voted Best Handball Player in the World by Handball-Planet.

Mathias Gidsel, got the highest number of points based on cumulative votes of 10 members of the international jury of handball journalists and visitors of the Handball-Planet website for the second year in a row.

It is only the second time that a player has received the award two years in a row. Most recently, it was Nikola Karabatic who got it in 2014 and 2015.

The Top five in the vote was all made out by Danish players:

Mathias Gidsel – 41 point

Emil Nielsen – 36 point

Simon Pytlick – 29 point

Emil Jakobsen – 29 point

Magnus Saugstrup – 27 point
