Jonas Vingegaard today visited the Tour of Denmark when the race made a stop in his hometown of Glyngore in Northern Jutland. The Danish rider took time to answer questions related to how he lacked the necessary acceleration to keep up with Tadej Pogacar in this year's Tour de France.
"In retrospect, not training more for that aspect was a mistake", says Vingegaard.
"We might have slightly misjudged the Tour this year. We focused on making me better on the longer climbs. Perhaps we should have considered making me more explosive and paying closer attention to the route. It is difficult to become explosive after having ridden the Giro," said Jonas Vingegaard, according to dr.dk.
Jonas Vingaard also revealed that if his recovery goes according to plan after he broke his collarbone and underwent surgery after abandoning the Tour de France, he is dreaming of competing for Denmark at the 2026 UCI Road World Championships, which will be held in Montréal from 20 to 27 September 2026.
"I’ve said all along that if I could be ready for the World Championships, that would be great. I still feel that way. But it depends on how the healing progresses and what my motivation is like when I’m able to start training again."
