Seattle Kraken forward Kaapo Kakko was ruled out for six weeks with a broken hand on Saturday.

Kakko sustained the injury after being slashed during the first period of the team's preseason game against the Edmonton Oilers on Thursday.

He played just 1:59 worth of shifts before exiting the game.

The 24-year-old was traded to the Kraken last year from the New York Rangers after Kakko and his former team were continuing to bump heads throughout the regular season.

After joining the Kraken, the former No. 2 overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft went on to put up 10 goals and 20 assists in 49 games, compared to his four goals and 10 assists in 30 games with the Rangers.

Kakko, who has expressed nothing but positive comments and feelings since joining Seattle, signed a new three-year, $13.575 million deal after joining the Kraken.

Their season starts on October 9th against the Anaheim Ducks
