Legendary Bayern Munich board member Uli Hoeness has vehemently rejected criticism of the German champions' summer transfer window.

"We are the real winners because we have a very strong team," Hoeness said on Sport1-Doppelpass.

He added, concerning the numerous dream players whom they missed out on: "Of course, we would have liked to have Florian Wirtz, but we would never have bought him for 150 million."

Bayern did not get several of their targets - such as Wirtz, Nick Woltemade or Nico Williams - in the summer.

Woltemade - who ultimately moved to Newcastle United for up to 90 million euros - is also "a good footballer, a super nice guy", according to Hoeness.

However, the Bayern executive added: "He's not worth 90 million."

Jackson purchase obligation might not apply

Hoeness did not criticise the fact that Bayern ultimately brought in Nicolas Jackson from Chelsea for a reported loan fee of €16.5 million.

"If I buy a player for five years for 80 million, that also costs 16 million a year in amortisation," said Hoeness.

There is also no need to worry about the purchase obligation of 65 million."That only has to be paid if he plays 40 games from the start," Hoeness revealed. "He never does that."

Hoeness praised the fact that Bayern now have a good mix of seasoned professionals and young players in their squad.

What's more, in November they will have "three new signings who cost nothing," said the 73-year-old, referring to the currently injured Jamal Musiala, Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito.

He added: "If we realise that we are in a good position internationally and perhaps have a chance of going very far, then we can add more in January."

Hoeness emphasised: "We have enough money to do that."
