Feyenoord returned to winning ways in the Eredivisie after beating FC Volendam 3-1 in Rotterdam.

Feyenoord suffered a painful loss in the Eredivisie in round 10, falling 3-2 to PSV in a crucial home meeting with the reigning champions. The loss put PSV on equal points with Feyenoord, who still led the league on goal difference.

Knowing PSV had booked a 5-2 win on Friday, and with Sem Steijn back in the starting lineup, a rampant Feyenoord bombarded Volendam's goal with shots early in the game. Luciano Valente, Anis Hadj Moussa, and Ayase Ueda all tried to beat Kayne van Oevelen early on, but could not make a difference in the opening 15 minutes.

Ueda eventually made up for his earlier missed chances, firing in his 12th Eredivisie goal of the season following an assist from right-back Givairo Read.

Steijn then doubled Feyenoord's lead in the 26th minute after skillfully working the ball in the far corner.

The home side continued its dominance in the first half and had very little to fear from Volendam, who recorded just three attempts and lost the xG battle by 2.40.

The league leaders held onto their offensive style of play after the break, but had to concede a surprising goal when Henk Veerman stood on the receiving end of a cross from Aurelio Oehlers, whose lofted pass beat a diving Timon Wellenreuther at the back post.

Even with Volendam edging closer to Feyenoord, the home side took the foot off the throttle in the second half. Still, there was little reason to worry about Volendam, who could not give their offence an extra push following Veerman's goal.

Instead, Ayase Ueda added a second goal to his evening by powerfully heading in a cross from Hwang-In Beom in the 89th minute, officially putting the game out of Volendam's reach.

Robin van Persie's men held onto the lead in the final minutes and secured their ninth win of the Eredivisie season. The Rotterdam outfit will visit VfB Stuttgart in the UEFA Europa League next Thursday in an attempt to win their second game of the European campaign.
