After a run of 99 matches without a 0-0 draw to start the 2025/26 season, the Dutch Eredivisie finally saw its first goalless draw of the season when Telstar and FC Twente faced each other on Friday.

It had never happened before that the Eredivisie started a season with 99 consecutive games without a 0-0 draw. Even better: the previous record stood from the 1956/57 season - the inaugural Eredivisie season - when the league wouldn't see its first 0-0 draw until the 73rd game.

No European record

However, this year's Eredivisie has not broken any European records. Even though 99 games without a goalless draw is impressive, and actually the second-longest such streak in Europe's top 30 leagues this century, the record belongs to Hungary's NB I.

Hungary's elite went a remarkable 139 games without a 0-0 in the 2013/14 season - a streak that ended on March 1st, 2014, in the game between Szombathelyi Haladas and MTK Budapest.

Several other leagues came close to the Eredivisie's mark. The Scottish Premiership saw its first 0-0 in the 91st game of the 2010/11 season, Austria's Bundesliga went 88 games without a 0-0 in the 2019/20 season, and Hungary even almost did it again in 2008, when the season started with 88 games that all didn't end in a 0-0 draw.

This season, Spain's LaLiga came closest to the Eredivisie, with its first goalless draw coming in the 61st game, between Girona and Espanyol on September 26th.
