Portuguese giants Benfica have launched 'Benfica Pet', a pioneering membership programme dedicated to supporters and their animals, marking World Animal Day (October 4th) with a celebration that brought fans and pets together in a unique way.

The new initiative allows Benfica members and supporters to officially register their pets as part of the Benfica family, receiving a special welcome kit - including a Benfica Pets scarf, medal, membership card, and official membership number.

Membership costs €30 annually, with €5 from every registration donated to the Benfica Foundation, supporting projects focused on animal protection and welfare.

To mark the launch, Benfica hosted a special event at the Estadio da Luz, inviting fans to bring their pets onto the iconic pitch for a professional photo, a symbolic celebration that underlines the club’s commitment to its supporters and their extended families.

Thousands of supporters and their pets flocked to the iconic venue to participate in this initiative.

Through Benfica Pet, the club, which boasts over 400,000 registered members around the world, became one of the few major football institutions globally to create a structured programme celebrating the bond between fans and their animals, reflecting both the club’s innovative spirit and its strong social responsibility values.
