West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo has spoken to the media ahead of this week's trip to Arsenal.

West Ham have remarkably won their last two games away to Arsenal without conceding a single goal, but they also hold the unwanted record of losing more Premier League London derbies than any other team as they head into what will be a heated clash

Nuno first spoke on winning on their last two league trips to Arsenal in what is an impressive statistic.

"It's a good record to have going to Arsenal, it gives us confidence," he said. "But we are aware that we will face a very good opponent, good manager and so many solutions, in a good momentum, it's a good test."

The club has to compete

He then opened up on the on the culture at the club after taking over from manager Graham Potter who was ruthlessly sacked last week.

"We have to compete, this is the main message that has been passed to me," Nuno staed.

"We need to compete, be strong, be brave, this is the West Ham way. Let's try!"

Ward-Prowse's future?

Next, he revealed whether James Ward-Prowse will feature after being omitted from his squad on Monday, sparking rumours around his future.

"What I see is that we are trying to know the players as soon as possible, as best as we can, so we can make the proper solutions and decisions.

"James was not involved. Let's see, we still have one more training session (before Saturday)," he said.

"We always have the mindset of what the team needs and what we want. The season is long, it's too soon to say what we expect. We need the full squad and everyone healthy."

Tensions rising at the club

Nuno was also questioned on tensions between the fan base and the club hierarchy as the support for those in control of the club at the top dwindles.

"(We want to) bring the fans closer to us, the fans were there in Liverpool (against Everton) and the help they gave us was amazing. On Saturday they will be there supporting us, so it's up to us to give back.," he said.

"These issues you mentioned (fan advisory board writing to club about concerns) is something that is not up to me. What I'm worried about is the bond between the team and the fans, it's really important. The boys, when they get the help of the fans, feel free and feel joy."

Potter was sacked the day after giving a news conference on Friday afternoon, Nuno was finally asked about his departure and the respect he has for him.

"We as managers don't choose, we are chosen." said Potter's replacement.

"The timing and decisions is not what us coaches make. I have sympathy for Graham, he is someone I really admire and I've known him personally for many years. I have huge respect for him and his coaching staff."
