Danish international defender Joachim Maehle from VfL Wolfsburg is ruled out for an indefinite period after suffering a serious shoulder injury.

The 28-year-old full-back suffered a "serious shoulder injury" in a training session with Wolfsburg on Wednesday, and now the Bundesliga club has ruled him out indefinitely.

Wolfsburg has confirmed the news on the club's website.

Maehle was immediately taken to the hospital by ambulance after the accident. And now doctors have concluded that it is a "serious shoulder injury". Wolfsburg doesn't give a time horizon for the injury.

28-year-old Mæhle has been relatively regular for Wolfsburg this season, and in the national team, he has played full-time in three out of four World Cup qualifiers this autumn.

The next tasks for the national team are in mid-November, when they face Belarus and then Scotland.

Wolfsburg, who has a Danish sporting director in Peter Christiansen and seven Danish players in the first team squad, is going through a very bad period.

The last nine matches have yielded just one win, and on Tuesday, the team was kicked out of the cup tournament after a 1-0 defeat against Holstein-Kiel.
