There were some surprises in the UEFA Conference League on Thursday (and Friday) as the second round of the league phase took place. Here is a stat from each of the 18 games.

Legia steal huge victory at the death

14 - It took a 79th-minute goal for Strasbourg to avoid defeat at home against Jagiellonia Bialystok. The Ligue 1 side had to settle for a 1-1 draw with their Polish opponent. Les Bleu et Blanc are proving to be quite the challenge to beat in European home matches. They are undefeated in their last 14 games at home in UEFA club competition (8-6-0).

11 - Fiorentina scored early on against Rapid Wien and did not look back in a 3-0 success in the Austrian capital. La Viola continued from where they left off on matchday one as they sit atop the UECL league phase after two rounds. It is the first time in 11 years that Fiorentina have kept consecutive clean sheets to commence a group phase.

21 - A Paddy Barrett own goal at the death broke Shelbourne hearts as they fell 1-0 away to Shkendija. The hosts became the first North Macedonian club to win a group match in continental play in what was a huge win. For Shelbourne, they have been kept out in a European match for the fourth time this season. The last time this occurred was 21 years ago in the UEFA Cup.

5 - Legia Warsaw also left it late in their match against Shakhtar Donetsk. The record Polish champions struck in the 94th minute in their 2-1 success to recover from their shocking defeat three weeks prior. Legia enjoyed their fifth win against sides from Ukraine, and their first versus Shakhtar at the third time of asking.

8 - Andrei Ratiu's penalty in the 103rd minute allowed for Rayo Vallecano to steal a 2-2 stalemate versus Hacken to the dismay of the fans at Gamla Ullevi. In what was a largely even game, where both sides had their opportunities, the Swedes led for more than 40 minutes in the second half. Hacken are left awaiting their maiden group phase victory after failing for the eighth time (0-2-6).

6 - Two first-half goals - one for each of Drita and Omonoia Nicosia - saw the match end honours even. The Cypriots tied things up on the stroke of half-time, with the final result being 1-1. The Kosovar champions commence their group phase bow with a pair of draws, taking their all-time total to six in Europe.

16 - The only match in the Conference League not to see any goals came in Iceland between Breidablik and KuPS Kuopio. While the hosts finally earn a result in the UECL proper, it is back-to-back draws for Finland KuPS, who are in an intense title race. Breidablik mustered 16 shots on the night, the most they have ever had in a group stage/league phase game.

18 - AEK Athens were scoring for fun at home, completing a 6-0 beating of Aberdeen. Aboubakary Koita's seven-minute brace in the opening half sent the Greeks on their way to their largest continental win in 24 years, when they prevailed by the same score. The Dons have conceded 18 times during their seven-game winless skid in European matches on the road.

- AZ Alkmaar bounced back from their shocking matchday one reverse thanks to Sven Mijnans' first-half goal. That was enough to see them past Slovakia's Slovan Bratislava 1-0. The Dutch club are notorious for performing well at home. In fact, Thursday night's victory made it seven on the spin for AZ at home.

Lincoln Red Imps and AEK Larnaca provide huge upsets

3 - CS Universitatea Craiova were close to claiming all three points at home to FC Noah, but conceded 17 minutes from time to draw 1-1. While CSU have still never lost at home in the UECL (qualifiers included), Noah are on their longest-ever unbeaten run on the road in UEFA club competition play. That draw took it to three without defeat on their travels (1-2-0).

1 - The theme of late goals continued in Czechia, as both Sigma Olomouc and Rakow Czestochowa scored within the final 10 minutes of their tie. There were no winners though, as the match ended 1-1. In what was their third match versus Polish opposition, Sigma have scored exactly one goal in each of those clashes.

9 - Celje are starting this season's Conference League exactly how they left off last term. In what was another strong performance, the Slovenian side prevailed 2-0 at Shamrock Rovers. Franko Kovacevic worked his magic once more, bagging a first-half brace for the away side, who have scored nine times in their last three away ties, conceding none in three successes.

0 - The incredible story for Samsunspor continues. Three weeks on from an impressive road win, the Turkish outfit followed that up with an even more dominant 3-0 success at home to Dynamo Kyiv. It leaves them as one of six sides to have a perfect record after two rounds. As for Dynamo, they failed to register a single shot on target in the 90 minutes.

29 - Mainz got the job done against Zrinjski, scoring early on in their 1-0 win. The Bosnian side played the final 52 minutes down a man after Igor Savic's dismissal. It is a second straight 1-0 victory to kick off the UECL proper for the German team. Meanwhile, Zrinjski failed to score in a European match for the 29th time in their history.

12 - It was history for Gibraltar's Lincoln Red Imps, who got past Lech Poznan 2-1 at home courtesy of Christian Rutjens' header two minutes from time. In what was one of the biggest results in the club's history, they also managed 12 shots in the game.

13 - Gaossou Diakite's goal seven minutes before the half helped Lausanne-Sport to a 1-0 defeat of Malta's Hamrun Spartans. In what was a rather even match at the Ta'Qali National Stadium, the Swiss club notched their second victory of the league phase. Hamrun will have to keep on waiting for their first result at this stage. It was their 13th home loss in European action.

2 - One of the other major shocks in the matchday saw Cypriot Cup winners AEK Larnaca stun Crystal Palace 1-0. Riad Bajic played hero for the visitors with his strike six minutes after the restart as Palace were on the wrong end of a shocking loss. AEK have won the opening two matches in this season's competition, meaning they have won multiple games in a group phase for the first time.

4 - In the game that finished on Friday due to adverse weather conditions, Rijeka pulled off a 1-0 success against Sparta Praha. The only goal of the match came 15 minutes from the end with the defending Croatian champions grinding out a massive result. Sparta have failed to score in consecutive European away games for the first time in four years.
